The president of Soka Gakkai International is Daisaku Ikeda (1928-). Widely recognised as a Buddhist philosopher, author and peace-builder, Mr. Ikeda is an impassioned advocate of dialogue for peace. In addition to his role in the development of the SGI worldwide movement for Culture, Education and Peace, he has engaged in dialogue with a wide range of thinkers including, Nelson Mandela and Wangari Maatthai. To date, 50 of his dialogues with individuals such as Arnold Toynbee, Mikhail Gorbachev and Linus Pauling have been published.
Mr. Ikeda has devoted himself to building bridges of understanding among people of different cultures and faiths and has also established peace institutions, cultural exchange programmes and educational facilities including Soka Universities in Japan and America. In recognition of his achievements, he has been the recipient of more than 300 honorary degrees from over 50 countries.
Daisaku Ikeda has two sons and lives in Tokyo with his wife, Kaneko
